Scottish Spina Bifida Association

Client: SSBA is Scotland’s voice for spina bifida, hydrocephalus and related conditions. It aims to support all those affected to identify their needs and to empower them to make informed choices and decisions. The SSBA supply a network of specialist support workers to individuals and families affected by Spina Bifida and associated conditions. With over 3000 registered users and a requirement to be a source of education and training to other organisations together with the operational expenses of the Family Support Centre in Cumbernauld, successful fundraising is a fundamental requirement. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey is the charity’s honorary patron.

Mission: Dezign Fanatics in collaboration with WSI were asked to participate in a one day workshop and conjure the road for charity’s new website. The existing SSBA website did not reflect the high quality facilities and professional approach that SSBA takes to both service users and fundraising. It was felt that this discouraged the potential corporate funder. The website was also difficult to maintain and update.

By asking the right question we were able to collate information and see who the charity’s main customer base was (the community, fund-raisers, information hunters), and how they could be funneled towards the information they were seeking. The charity relies heavily on corporate sponsors and the new site never forgets that - at the same time it does not alienate the real reason the charity exists - for those affected.

The goal was to have a balanced structure, yet not loose the aspirations of those visiting, from mature donators to skydiving enthusiasts. The home page has it all, whilst the internal funnels are more corporate and clean. Some information transcends across the site as it was important to understand the different users might have some needs that were the same. Celebs and corporate giants come together with the real heroes in this site.
